External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will embark on an official visit to the United States from June 30 to July 2 to participate in the upcoming QUAD Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (QFMM), scheduled for July 1 in Washington, DC. The visit is at the invitation of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Sunday.

During his visit, EAM Jaishankar will also inaugurate a special exhibition at the United Nations Headquarters in New York titled “The Human Cost of Terrorism”, which underscores the global impact of terrorist acts and highlights the international community’s efforts to combat terrorism.

The QFMM will see Foreign Ministers from Australia, India, Japan, and the US engaging in high-level discussions on regional and global developments, particularly those concerning the Indo-Pacific. The meeting aims to review progress on existing initiatives and consider new proposals that advance the Quad’s shared vision of a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific.

The MEA noted that the upcoming meeting builds upon the discussions held at the last QFMM in Washington on January 21. India is also set to host the next Quad Leaders’ Summit later this year, making this ministerial meeting a key step in shaping its agenda.

US State Department Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott confirmed Secretary Rubio will host the July 1 meeting, noting, “This is what American leadership looks like: strength, peace, and prosperity.”

The Quad, a strategic partnership formed by Australia, India, Japan, and the US, has its roots in the joint response to the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and is committed to fostering stability, resilience, and inclusive growth in the Indo-Pacific region.

In a joint statement earlier this year, Quad Foreign Ministers reaffirmed their dedication to upholding sovereignty, territorial integrity, and opposing any attempts to unilaterally alter the status quo through coercion or force.
